Scott Davis
Chief Operating Officer and Technical Manager
International Dark-Sky Association, Tuscon, Arizona

Scott will present an overview of the International Dark-Sky Association, including the IDA's philosophy about the importance of responsible outdoor lighting. He will discuss the important issues of light pollution and the benefits of good lighting. He will also present and discuss the new Model Lighting Ordinance recently developed by the IDA's MLO Working Group.


Background

International Dark-Sky Association C.O.O. and Technical Manager Scott Davis has played a key role in the development of the IDA Model Lighting Ordinance and is currently developing the IDA Lighting Fixture “Seal of Approval” Program. As Technical Manager he provides assistance to IDA members and others with lighting codes and regulations as well as general lighting concerns.

Prior to joining IDA in February 2002, Scott was the Senior Marketing Coordinator for GE Lighting Systems (GELS) in Hendersonville, North Carolina, where he oversaw the GELS Training Institute. In addition to maintaining the center and its state-of-the-art equipment, his responsibilities included organizing and hosting training seminars, outdoor lighting demonstrations and factory tours.

A native of Asheville, Scott graduated from the University of North Carolina at Asheville in 1993 with a bachelor of arts degree in biology. He is a member of the IESNA and the CIE.
