Lonnie Puterbaugh is a servo systems engineer with the Stuart C. Irby Company in Nashville. He is also an Eagle Scout and an accomplished amateur astronomer.
His growing interest in and knowlege of astroimaging has kept him on the leading edge of video astronomy. Lonnie is deeply involved in outreach, using specialized astronomical videocameras, modified webcams, and solar telescopes to improve and enhance outreach programs as well as his own imaging work.
Lonnie also created The Astronomy Channel, a system for doing incredibly effective public outreach using a camera-equipped telescope, laptop and video monitor supplemented with over three gigabytes of instructional images, text and video. Always a hit at BSAS public events, The Astronomy Channel points the way to the future of astronomy outreach.
The images below are only a tiny sample of the work that Lonnie does on a regular basis, mostly from his own impressive home observatory. He added the descriptions to each image prior to publishing them here.
