Dark Sky Committee

Serves as liaison with the International Dark Sky Association (IDA), of which BSAS is a member, and with the IDA's Middle Tennessee Section. Promotes dark skies in the Middle Tennessee area by working with local groups to inform the public of the advantages of responsible outdoor lighting.

Equipment, Facilities & Grants Committee

Supervises maintenance and use of BSAS equipment and facilities. Proposes and recommends future acquisitions. Develops and manages equipment loan programs. Investigates and applies for grants to support the programs of the BSAS. Coordinates with the Long Range Planning Committee.

Finance & Budget Committee

Prepares BSAS annual budget. Oversees fundraising efforts. Proposes changes to the dues structure, in cooperation with the Membership Coordinator.

Long Range Planning Committee

Develops and recommends long range goals and objectives to the BSAS membership.

Program Committee

Plans programs for each membership meeting. Chooses, invites and makes arrangements for guest speakers and program presenters. Manages payments of honoraria and expenses for nonmember presenters and provides certificates of appreciation.

Public Relations, Outreach & Mentoring Committee

Coordinates publicity for BSAS programes and activities. Arranges and coordinates member activities, educational programs and star parties. Coordinates with Adventure Science Center, Dyer Observatory and area parks to schedule and staff astronomy events. Develop and coordinate member-staffed mentoring programs.

Tennessee Star Party Committee

Plans for the upcoming Tennessee Star Party; coordinates events, programs, services, publicity and communications; solicits speakers and prizes; works with volunteers and coordinates with other regional clubs.
